Pregnancy is a beautiful time and women's bodies are miraculous. But pregnancy is also hard on the body! One of the frustrating things that happens while you grow another human is constipation. In fact, constipation affects about half of all women at some point during pregnancy.
WHY? So many reasons! Hormones during pregnancy relax the intestinal muscle and the added pressure of the growing uterus on the intestines. This relaxation causes food and waste to move slower through your system. Another cause could be the iron found in prenatal vitamins.
What can you do to help stay regular? We asked some mamas in our community and they gave us so many wonderful ideas!
"I drink a cup of orange juice every day! No joke, this helps so much!" -@kyliebjones
"Coffee!" -@taratakeout
"Eat veggies/fiber and drink lots of water regularly to stay regular!" -@nancyann699
"So much water!!!" -@kristinpahl
"Lots of fruit!" -@lachellejaxn
I eat 2-3 dried prunes (I get mine at Trader Joe’s) every day and it totally keeps me regular. I couldn’t survive pregnancy without them.
